Stanislavski was the first person to develop a cogent and practical system of acting. Throughout his life he sought the answers to such fundamental questions as: "What is great acting?" and "How can you find inspiration in every performance?" Stanislavski remains the most important influence on actor training today, and yet many of his ideas are little known, or even misunderstood. Stanislavski For Beginners charts the development of the Stanislavski system. It includes a clear exposition of the key elements of the system and explores his Method of Physical Actions, which he worked on in the years before his death, and which he called "the result of my whole life's work." Review: A great book that fills in the gaps left by the METHOD - One of the worst things that happened to acting was the development in America of the infamous and incomplete "METHOD" propagated by a well known acting school that was popular amongst many actors including James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Steve McQueen - I wonder what the link is between their training and their deaths - is the METHOD psychologically sound and safe? The Method is based on one of two books written by Constantin Stanislavski - a long break between publishing the two volumes (somewhere in the order of 10 years) saw the USA get a glimpse at part of what Stanislavski meant ... this little book helps fill in the gaps.. As a drama teacher I have found this an invaluable resource in teaching students about "method acting", realism, emotional recall, etc - it clearly articulates the concepts at a level that just about anyone can deal with... the pictures and the brevity of text make it an enticing read for students and teacher alike... do yourself a favour - get this little gem and check out others in the series. Review: Good Intro to "The System" - This is an illustrated biography of Konstantin Stanislavski. It's a really good introduction to Stanislavski and the origin of his "System" of acting, which posits that an actor fails with either actions or emotions alone but rather should have both simultaneously fuel the other. The illustrations are grand, and the story thoroughly researched and well told (if a bit tedious for my tastes). My biggest complaint is the low-res publishing, which makes the book look like it was printed in a garage with an all-in-one.

Great Advice for Actors
Great book, lots of good advice for actors. The comics make the book fun and easy to read. The reader learns a lot about "The Method", Stanislavski's approach to teaching acting. The personal stories between Stanisvlavski and other famous theatre practitioners, such as Stella Adler, Vsevovlod Meyerhold, Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, etc., make this book heartwarming and personal.

Very nice
I really liked this book. It is written in a very fun and easy to read format. I enjoyed reading every part of it. It uses everyday language to go through Stanislavski's life.

Dreadful
The only use for this book was that I needed something to write a phone number on and that was about it - I was expecting to learn a bit about acting and got nothing more than a rather elaborate disjointed narrative - cartoon style for a five-year-old.
