Q: what all is needed to install?

To install this unit you will need the hose and tank to hold the water. Also you require electronics and wire for installation. What application are you using this on and I will direct you to the correct kit?

Q: What material is the clear covering at the ends of the cell?

Lexan plastic. I used potassium chloride as the electrolyte and after a few months using 7 amps through the plates with a 12 Volt DC 25 amp power supply the metal plates dissolved and stopped producing. I had to throw the cell out. Initially I added electrolyte solution to a electrolyte solution tank above the cell until I got the 7 amps output and a .1 ohm resistor to measure amps. The unit was rated for 40 amps. What electrolyte should I have use?
