The green is typically applied to the smooth, epidermis side of the leather, and the white to the rough, suede side, but either may be used as desired. In most cases, a very thin layer of compound applied to the strop with your finger will be ideal, but everyone develops their own technique which works best for them. After loading the leather, draw the blade away from the edge along the strop with the spine of the lifted at a very low angle.
