Great little radio without breaking the bank
For the money this is quite an impressive little radio. Given the size; the audio output is crystal clear at moderate volume although if you crank it up you'll get distortion. The unit is a bit of a fiddle to programme if you try and make use of the supplied instruction manual; however there are some excellent you-tube videos that help immensely and result in making setup a doddle. I bought this unit as a cheap and cheerful 2m/70cm rig for the car so that i'll always have something permanently in there. Previously I'd head out and forget to grab my main radio or a handheld. This fits my preferance for mobile operation - runs 10w and allows me to make use of the repeaters to gain that extra cover. Owing to the small size; this rig can be discreetly fitted. I opted for a spot near the steering column, which means, with the mic removed, it cannot be seen from outside the vehicle. Plan ahead on install gives you extra flexibility. I ran coax from the unit, under the carpet near the door sills, into the boot / trunk... Where i've terminated it in an SO239 socket. This allows me to connect my magmount quickly or switch out for a telescopic beam when stationary. To protect the radio when no aerial is connected; i fit a dummy load to the SO239 socket. Running low power (5w) gave a good QSO, simplex between Devils Dyke and Ockley (Surrey) - a disrance of around 15/20 miles. All in all - I'm a very happy customer
