Clover 57-036 French Embroidery Needles Assortment No. 3-6, Pack of 12

I totally thought my John James which are my favorite tapestry needles were going to win the testing. But after trying out 5 brands of needles these Clover Embroidery Needles have won my personal test. They had consistently larger eyes as compared to the same size embroidery needle manufactured by other companies. I can use a needle threader with up to 2-3 strands of DMC cotton floss. Some brands I couldn’t get one strand to floss with a threader. This is important as I have old eyes that just can’t get the thread into the needle as easily as they once could. The needles were also consistent quality. The Bohin needles came with one defective needle (the end of the eye was missing) and another needle just snapped in half. Frankly the only other brand to meet the quality were the Tulip Hiroshima needles but they are pretty pricey compared to other brands. So I really can recommend these Clover Embroidery Needles. Japanese quality at a good price point. 😉

I especially enjoy sewing with this size needles. They are strong enough for many tasks and fine enough as well. Easier for me to thread. (Eyesight deteriorating, hands not as nimble as they used to be...) I was thrill to find I could buy them as just this size, I'd only found them as part of "sets" before, meaning I'd end up with more needles that I wouldn't use than with these.

These are very nice needles for when you need to do a quick repair. I keep needles separated by size and manufacturer because I do so many kinds of sewing and hese have become my go-to "all-purpose" needles for the sorts of things most people seem to do. It's the perfect needle to sew on a button or put a few stitches in a seam or hem that's begun to fail. They are perfectly smooth and pierce the fabric easily, the eye is well made and has no rough spots to cut your thread. I have also used these needles when doing drawn thread work. You can also use them when you intend to sew for hours at at a time. I made a set of a dozen dish towels from a medium/heavy linen with just one of these needles and not only did it remain sharp, it didn't deform. They are worth the price, they are the ones I put in the mini sewing kit I made for my non-sewing friend. (Everybody needs a mini sewing kit in my opinion.)

Love these needles. They are sharp and I can do my felt applique without switching needles for settings and beads. Very much worth it!
