Great product
This product is awesome, it has stopped my obsession to need to test everyday, I’m fairly new to fish keeping 6 months in, My tank is fully cycled but the need to make sure the perimeters were perfect everyday was still there, Spending alot of money if api test, I’ve had this in my tank for 3/4 weeks and I love it, I know it’s only measured free ammonia but as that is the worst for the fish so that’s what I’m going to worry about, I water change every week anyway, What I will say I’ve noticed is during the day it will be at the safe level, once the lights are off over night it moves to the first warning alert level, On googling this is completely normal as my lights are off which stops the plants doing their thing, as soon as the lights come on it goes back to safe level, I did do a strip test after a couple of days then haven’t again highly recommend this for peace of mind,

Don’t rely on these!
***updated review based on new knowledge of how this works, please read and ignore the review underneath.*** This works by identifying dangerous ammonia not total ammonia which includes ammonium, typically the water test kits identify both ammonia and ammonium (which isn’t as dangerous to fish) and therefore will always show higher levels of Ammonia, so although water test kits are best and tell you where you are in the cycle, the alert is the one which will tell you when your fish are in danger without the need for water testing continuously. As soon as you see the alert start to rise you know there are dangerous levels of Ammonia present. This alert is best for an already cycled tank, I can say that my tank is now full of algae and happily cycled and I had no major issues. Just be aware that water test kits are a MUST and really i would only use those to cycle with. The Ammonia Alert does its job well, it won’t register total ammonia, only dangerous ammonia which is what’s important. I would recommend it for peace of mind when you get on with your cycled aquarium. Be patient and wait for the test kits to show 0 on both ammonia and Nitrite and then get this alert. Hope that helps. ***original review***Just a word of caution to anyone doing a fish in cycle with bottled bacteria (colony). This alarm thing seems a great idea but in reality the reaction is very delayed and shows 0 at low level ammonia, when water tests show 0.25, this showed 0. I woke in the middle of the night (thank goodness I did) and one of my clowns were agitated. Checked water parameters and ammonia is at 0.50! The “alarm” barely shows 0.04. A big difference 😩 thank god I had Seachem Prime to hand otherwise it would have been a horrible ending. It’ll stay in my tank but it’s definitely too delayed to make a quick change to save your fish, rely on water tests only.

Excellent for mature tanks.
Now that my tank is cycled, stable, and mature, I’ve started using one of these to preserve my test kit supplies. I’d recommend that you understand exactly what this measures before being dissuaded by the negative reviews, because when used correctly these work excellently. Reasonably unobtrusive, and a bit smaller than I was expecting (it’s not credit card sized). Lasts for up to 1 year.

It’s saved my fish more than once!
This is great, it alerts, it works. You just need to understand that this alerts you to free Ammonia, the dangerous part of Ammonia. It does not alert you to total Ammonia so if you have Ammonia in your tank but the free Ammonia is not at a level toxic to your fish, it won’t change colour. So when you do a test such as API master test and it indicates Ammonia, and you look at this and is displaying yellow, all good, that doesn’t mean this is not working or wrong but rather that there is not enough free Ammonia In Your tank to alert you. Your fish are safe. This has alerted me a couple of times and been absolutely right, my fish and I are thankful for it. Large water changes happen every time it speaks lol. Great peace of mind and very visible.

Nearly lost fish
Unfortunately this did not work, due to my fish looking ill I performed an ammonia drop test the result was high ! Nothing showed on the indicator. To check I moved this to a tank that I am cycling and that I know has 3ppm ammonia again this showed no indication of ammonia being present in the water. Waste of money and potentially loss of fish if you rely on it, it is an expensive product too.

Works perfectly and lasts 12 Months of full time monitoring.
This product is really good. It tests for the Toxic levels of ammonia only which is exactly what is states it does. If you are unsure of this item working, you can test it using the gas from any cleaning product that has ammonia in it. Do not touch any part of the yellow sensor with anything other than your aquarium water when Installing it. I keep it near my intake of the filter where the most water flow is and out of the way from sight (Not on the front panel of the aquarium) I have a large school of Rummy Nose Tetra's and they are always very active, nice dark red on their Nose / Head at all times when the lights are on. These species of Tetra are great of letting you know if there's something wrong with your water parameters as their red patch fades completely when their stressed. So 12 months of full time testing is perfect, I check it every day when feeding the fish.

Looks good
bought this for a brackish water tank , it looks neat and if it works like it says for a year, it is well worth the money . Only concern is the plastic that protects covers the colour changing disc during shipping took a while to gently get it off as it was stuck on the disc and didn’t want to damage disc

Great product for your aquarium!
Really liked this product for a ‘not super experienced yet’ aquascape wannabe. Feel I can check easily for the ammonia potential in the tank now and be confident to trust this little tool for keeping my tank safe and healthy.

Super facile

Finally an accurate way to navigate ammonia
Newbies in aquaria always make the silly mistake of freaking out over ammonia after using an api test. API ammonia tests measure both ammonia and ammonium (free form= toxic ionized = harmless under 0.02) With this tester youre dealing strictly with free ammonia which is what you need to be worried about more than anything else.

Great product, works as stated
This Seachem Ammonia Alert does not replace the need for testing the aquarium water with a liquid test kit, but it provides me with an overview of how much free (NH3) ammonia is present - by the way, NH3 is more toxic than NH4. My liquid test kit (API) does not test individual ammonias, it only tests total. It is great to use this product when cycling, or just when you want to know if your water is toxic to your fish. I purchased another one to keep on hand if this one ever gives up, but I am sure it will last the full year. Seachem is now my favourite brand, as I have purchased Stability, Prime, and now this from them, and all of their products are amazing. I am now going to start using Seachem for all my fish needs.

Ammonia alert test
8 am happy to have it. It is a safe guard for my little aquatic friends. Some will say it doesn't work because their drop test gives an other result. I did my researches. The drop test shows results for Ammonia and Ammonium together. Ammonium isn't toxic bu ammonia is very. The sensor of Saechem react to only Ammonia not to Ammonium. It is an important thing to know.
