In this New York Times bestseller, Hollywood power couple DeVon Franklin and Meagan Good candidly share their courtship and marriage, and the key to their success—waiting. President/CEO of Franklin Entertainment and former Sony Pictures executive DeVon Franklin and award-winning actress Meagan Good have learned firsthand that some people must wait patiently for “the one” to come into their lives. They spent years crossing paths but it wasn’t until they were thrown together while working on the film Jumping the Broom that their storybook romance began. Faced with starting a new relationship and wanting to avoid potentially devastating pitfalls, DeVon and Meagan chose to do something almost unheard of in today’s society—abstain from sex until they were married. DeVon and Meagan share the life-changing message that waiting—rather than rushing a relationship—can help you find the person you’re meant to be with. The Wait is filled with candid his-and-hers accounts of the most important moments of their relationship and practical advice on how waiting for everything—from dating to sex—can transform relationships, allowing you to find a deep connection based on patience, trust, and faith. Review: This book was such a blessing! Hands down! - This book was such a blessing! Hands down! As a believer who has struggled over the years with how to effectively remain abstinent, I believe that I purchased it at the perfect time in my life. I had finally made a decision to take my life back and seek peace, which led to ending my relationship with my ex-fiancé, who I am sure now really was not God's best for my life. It was not until I said, "this is not what God wants for me, I deserve better" that I was able to go through the process of humbling myself and facing my mistakes head on. I allowed God to transform my mind by fasting and praying, even 21 days. (YES, it was that serious for me, lol) I had to break that soul tie with him by any means necessary LOL. "The Wait" was one of many books and sermons i came across and used to gain new information that healed me from the damage caused in my prior relationship and my old mindset that attracted it. I really appreciate Devon and Megan because their testimony challenges us believers to search our own hearts for whether we practice what we preach. This type of example is SOOO needed for the body of Christ. We need to see that more people are foregoing the world's way and adhering to the voice of the Holy Spirit for God's best in all areas of our lives. This book gave me encouragement through practical examples to keep waiting and also how to date wisely while waiting on God. Moving in WISDOM is implicit in this book, The Wait. I have read some reviews that said that it basically only outlined what we already know about abstinence and that it really is not helpful to those more mature in their walk, but I beg to differ. I have been a born-again bible-loving Christian for the past 10 years and I did not realize how prideful I was until I asked God to reveal parts of me that is not like Him. By humbling myself and accepting that it is not how long I claim to be a Christian, but how I renew my mind each day to stay obedient to His Word & Will, that I truly can appreciate the jewels in Devon and Megan's testimony. They helped demystify this walk by being so transparent and showing us that anything is possible when we trust that when we live in God's Will, and have a heart for God, that we will discover a Loving Father who desires the best for all of His Children in all areas of their life. Since His Word does not return void, He always fulfills His promises. Great read!! Review: ... for almost 5 years now and while I feel like this book is a good instructional guide on celibacy ... - I've been abstaining for almost 5 years now and while I feel like this book is a good instructional guide on celibacy it's also very honest. While sharing their own romance Megan and DeVon really expose what it takes to become not just a better person but ultimately the person God designed you to be in order for him to bless you. I think I finished this book in roughly 2-3 days. I wasn't attempting to speed read but I really enjoyed it. I also really found a side of Megan Good I didn't know existed. She seems very raw in her accounts and like a real woman versus what she's portrayed as in hollywood. I feel as though I greatly misjudged her. The Wait is very much about doing things the opposite way of everybody else in order to be your happiest self. We really do live in a society that doesn't value patience and that's reflected in everything from fast food to on demand programming. My decision to be celibate came later but was based on a decision that I wanted to be closer to God and better myself. I feel like this book is for anyone who's looking for inspiration or tips. Also someone who's celibate already and needs a push or more of a reason to draw closer to God and Jesus Christ. If two people working in the world can find each other and find love while operating through Christ and God's timing, why can't any of us? Aside from a typo I noticed while reading this is a pretty solid book and was very enjoyable. One con though: There's mention of masturbation is a section called Taking Care of Business. DeVon states that masturbation is a gray area topic in the bible. As I was reading this I remembered a section of the bible that addressed it but couldn't remember where it was. With some googling here it is. Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother." Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.… While the passage doesn''t specifically mention masturbation wasted seed is displeasing to God. When we masturbate (especially men) that leads to wasted semen. I'm not trying to nitpick. I just remembered I had read it and thought I should mention it. Also, there's no mention of spirit wives or husbands (another Christian belief that has to do with your sexual practices opening doors to sexual demons like the incubus or succubus. (They attach themselves to you every time you have premarital sex with someone and you become married in the spirit world. Masturbation is one of them. ) Aside from mentioning these things the book is definitely worth reading.

Powerful Inspiration
I discovered DeVon and Meagan's story back in 2013 after reading a magazine article about their love story. After a few video interviews they became my mentors from a distance. They were so real, so transparent and so wise. One of the things I love about this couple is that they aren't afraid to change the game. They could have kept it to themselves that they were celibate but they were open about it and started a movement where singles who have been practicing celibacy are encouraged to be more open and stay on track because of their obedience to share their testimony. Needless to say, I was waiting on this book for three years and in the end it fulfilled all my expectations. The first few chapters had a lot of what I already knew from following them but after I got to the middle and reached the end I was blown away. I love when Meagan talks to the women and dispels the myth that we don't need to compete with other women in order to get the "last good single guy" left. If we are giving God the keys to our life we have to have FAITH that he will manifest our blessings in EVERY area of our life. We have to actively wait on God to bless us, not only with a relationship but in general. I love how she heard DeVon was her husband but actively waited 9 months to get herself together. I love that as a man DeVon waited 10 years and as a result, I mean just look at his reward. Romantically and professionally he is living proof that God honors faithfulness. God blessed him with a beautiful wife, who is not only physically beautiful but has an even more genuine and gentle beautiful spirit. Professionally he also just released his first movie. Now tell me God isn't faithful when you "wait" on him. He is also living proof that's it's not a microwave process, his life takes away the anxiety that something is wrong with me if God takes 3 to 5 years or more to manifest your miracle. This couple has been a true blessing through this book and through their daily example. I would recommend this book to every single woman and man who wants to experience not only a fruitful and God ordained marriage, but overall a fruitfull and God ordained life!

Beautiful Message for those new to the topic
I recently have been thinking about practicing the wait in my personal life and I have been watching a lot of preachers talk about the power of celibacy and then I remembered this book! I had watched almost EVERY video of Devon & Meagan’s Steve Harvey, Oprah and other interviews on youtube and I LOVED them and thought it was so beautiful of a message. So I bought this book for additional encouragement hoping that it would be my final string to committing to celibacy. The book is GREAT for people who are new to this topic and are having a hard time dating regularly and want to change things up and think about a greater purpose for life on all levels. For me, it was quite dry, repetitive and wasn’t as personal and “Real” as I thought it would be, it was very detached. I love Meagan and Devon and wanted to support them so I am happy I purchased the book. It would have been more helpful for me if I read it maybe 5 years ago. I still recommended this book to people who are introductory at this topic, it will definitely change your perspective in an amazing way! I truly commend these two for stepping out on faith and delivering this message. If you are already on the journey and need a little more conviction, check out Heather Lindsey on youtube!

Highly recommend to those who want to refine their romantic/sexual life for the better.
This book is insightful for those looking to seek in maintaining a connecting with God through celibacy while waiting to meet a partner that they would one day marry. It provides methods in how to maintain a relationship before and during marriage. God is good. I know as of 2025 the couple unfortunately divorced but the message still stands on a string foundation.

What A Beautiful Testimony!!!! Must Have!!!
We needed this book!!! I started my journey in Oct 2015 so I'm fairly new to being celibate. One day after an emotional rollercoaster with my ex lover of 3 1/2 years (yeah he wasn't even my man!!!) I decided I had enough. I had lost myself. I didn't even know who I was anymore. I knew that I needed God back in my life. I desperately wanted to fall back in love with myself. I cant lie...the first month was tough! I did a lot of reflecting. I answered most of the question that are in your book. I finally took responsibility for my part in my destruction and moved forward. I gave it to God. One day I was in my house and God touched my spirit. It was so random. He told me to record my celibacy journey. He told me that other women and men needed to witness someone going through this journey from the beginning. I listened to Him. I started a YouTube channel called Sista Celibacy a month after taking the vow. There are so many people out here embarking on the same journey I am. I get emails everyday from women and men explain why they chose celibacy. Its so empowering! I'm not a celebrity, but I am thankful for a couple like you who is not afraid to take this topic mainstream. God bless!!!

Waiting with a purpose, actively waiting!
I forgot what led me to following both Megan and DeVon on facebook but it must have been Gods plan all along. This book was at the perfect time for myself and I know many can say it. Whether you are waiting, thinking of waiting or have back slidden during a waiting timeframe. My story is such a big one but I feel God wants me to tell some. I grew up in the church and knew that's what God wanted of us. Then you don't understand your desires and you have insecurities in general and worse, life happens. So my father made a decision not to help the wife he had six children with (1 from a previous marriage and he was also a pastor). I had a brother with cerebral palsy whom never walked or talked during the course of his life here. Needless to say life already had it's intense moments. So there was a boy that I fell in love with at 17 years old who I had known since I was 10 years old and he was my best friend and I fell in love. I wanted him to be my first (usually when you fall in love this is the natural inclination). I told him one Sunday night. Scared and confused but bubbling with love on the phone. He was floored as I confessed this intense feelings. He told me I was so brave and he would have never had the guts to blurt it out. That was on Sunday. Friday night he went to the first football game of his senior year. I spoke on the phone with him but it was loud and I told him to enjoy and call me when he got home and I knew he would... He was murdered that night. Shot 5 times. He never called me... So I thought God wanted to punish me! Everyone I knew and loved would die. That's how I felt! I'm 28 years old and still know that I was in love with that man, truly in love. I gave my virginity years later but had lost my innocence years before. Turned out after, I ended up finding out we were beyond unequally yoked and it was a spiritual warfare and nightmare! To top this all off, my father died of a heart attack, my lovely beautiful brother died at the age of 23 having never kissed a girl and kicked a ball or walked on this earth. I've been hurt and betrayed and all the things we all have been, death laced in many corners of my life. I knew God had a bigger plan. I didn't want to believe in the life I wouldn't have all that God promised! Even though I didn't uphold my promise, I could re-commit...right? BUT who was doing that??? When I found out that Megan and DeVon, 2 beautifully attractive people did, it changed something inside of me that had already started. My journey started before the book was released. I've followed Megan's career and understood how people could see a person and judge them, not knowing their true heart. She was so much more than the media tried to reduce her to. I hope I didn't lose any of you or seem too long winded. You just don't understand!! What happened to me while reading this book!!! What crazy nightmare dream revelation I received as well!! Don't worry, I'm going to start blogging soon and will be writing in depth about it. God gave me a crazy dream about Temptation and how while it is seducing you and enticing you and APPEARING to be all things you want and need, it could possibly lead to your demise! Whether it's food or more importantly this sexual gratification thing. The spiritual warfare, diseases, forever ties with baby mother's and father's that are treacherous and just dying of a broken heart from all of the self inflicted pains. There are so many amazing points but one I highlighted in Chapter 4 was " Temptation is everywhere, and staying strong is brutal.". I watched all of the interviews they did speaking of your Triggers and I knew they were speaking of points like "being alone on the couch together" and things like that but there was even more! Triggers are also events that happen in your life that makes you fall back into bad habits!! Like the Death of a close loved one...and that hit home...really hit home... I apologize for it being so long! Yes there are some "common sense" things in the book, only to the persons already starting and on the journey. If you haven't yet, maybe all concepts will seem new. But you will still learn a lot about it!! Just because it might be common sense doesn't mean you saw every aspect of it. Everyone could learn something from this book. If you can't...well...tell Jesus I said Hello! :) Thank you so much DeVon! Megan, I see you so much more differently, so much more clearly. I see that we are much more alike than I thought. I thank you for giving me the strength to announce my celibacy and re-claim my life during my active waiting. Thank you and thank you for letting God use you! (I did pre-order this book and it came late as I was counting the hours it seems!! It's almost was pointless to mention because this book was life and perception changing!)

A must read for anyone seeking true love
Most people will dismiss celibacy as ludicrous nonsense. However, those who are strong enough to deny their self-indulgences to provide a window for God to work in their lives will be truly astonished by the supernatural power they discover from their walk with the Lord. Devon and Meagan provide a candid, realistic perspective of celibacy through their testimony that's very inspiring and encouraging. My girlfriend and I read this book after we'd already embraced celibacy, both before we dated and within our relationship. The Wait confirmed and reinforced many of the experiences we have both had, after we gave up sex to find true love - in our relationship with the Lord and His confirmation that He answered our prayers when he brought she and I together. We are now on the path toward marriage with a tremendous confidence of the Lord's hand in our relationship. I can't recommend The Wait enough. It serves up approachable, life-changing, biblically-sound wisdom in an easy-to-digest fashion. If you can do what this book guides you through, your life will never be the same again. It's not easy, but it's such a small price for everything you will gain.

A must read for anyone and everyone
Powerful and transformative to say the very least. Ever since I watched a video of DeVon and Meagan a few months back my mind has been constantly wanting to purchase this book. When I finally did I wasn't disappointed. I've learnt a lot from this book and will make changes to my life going forward from the things DeVon and Meagan have shared in their book. It's a wonderful, interesting read with so much sense and compassion laden within its lines. This is a must purchase for anyone who wants to move forward not only in relationships but in every aspect of their life.

Great Book!
This book is very practical. The authors carefully crafted this book in a way that it describes what the dating scene is like now, what challenges we may face during "The Wait", and how to overcome the obstacles. It didn't just focus on sex as the waiting period but looking into yourself. It takes a mature person to look inward, which most people don't like to do...If you are one of those people, then this book isn't going to help you.

Exceptional testimony from Christians in the Hollywood business that decided to live out their beliefs
From their high visible position in Hollywood business - DeVon is a pastor and film maker/producer and his wife is a beautiful actress - they chose to live out their belief in sexual purity, with much realism and awareness and without any holier-than-thou attitude. Very rare approach! They decided to practice "celibacy" until marriage even before they got together, but only to be able to receive the blessings attached to taken God's law seriously. The book is very, extremely honest and clear, sharing their combined experience and how it all turned out. Not superficial or taken for granted. Better than a strong movie!
