Can this drive 2 stepper motors in unison? example a y-axis gantry. or do i need one per motor?

one driver per stepper motor or you'll overheat the driver...you'll need to slave the second driver to the same axis as the first driver

Hi, can i ask if i will use stepper motor nema 23 -2.8a can i use dm556 ? there is not 2.8a in settings

All current settings are intended to limit maximum current supplied to the stepper motor. If you have a stepper motor with max current 2.8 Amps, set up max current on the driver to the next closest value, e.g. 3.2 Amp. Driver will supply enough current for the stepper to work, but if your motor is overloaded (stuck, etc.), the driver will limit the current at 3.2 Amps.

If I am running 4 of these off one power supply. would they be pulling 12.8 Amps?

It is unlikely, in fact near impossible, that all 4 of your motors would be running at full amps at the same time. You can size your power supply to 70% of the total amps of your motors.
