it measures 3/16” thick despite the stated 1/2” thickness.

Does this have a smooth surface?

The surface has a soft grain texture to it. It's not smooth like a plate.

What is the Shore Hardness D of this board?

Not sure what D means but I use it for leather work with ultra sharp tools and for hole punching with a 2 ton press and it is holding up very well. I would say it is as hard as my commercial grade boards.

will it melt from high heat?
