Bacillus Thuringiensis var israelensis is a variant of the Bt bacteria that targets larvae. Commonly used for mosquito control in ponds and pools, Bti is also highly efficient in targeting the larvae of fungus gnats that infest potted soil and are notoriously difficult to get rid of. This product is available as chunks/blocks/diskettes that can be used to control mosquito larvae in ponds or black fly larvae or fungus gnats with highly targeted efficiency and it has no effect on other insects, s, mammals or people. In controlling fungus gnats, the product may be added to the watering tray and left to release the Bti into the soil, soaked in water overnight and used to drench the soil of infected s or crumbled and sprinkled on the surface of the container. As pest eggs hatch, repeated applications will be necessary till the fungus gnats are controlled in case of a soil drench or the crumbled product being displaced from the surface of the soil. Usually a month or so of weekly applications is enough to get rid of most infestations.
