## Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the bestselling author of Dark Matter and the Wayward Pines trilogy comes a relentless thriller about time, identity, and memory—his most mind-boggling, irresistible work to date, and the inspiration for Shondaland’s upcoming Netflix film. “Gloriously twisting . . . a heady campfire tale of a novel.”— The New York Times Book Review NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY Time • NPR • BookRiot Reality is broken. At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery—and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth—and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery . . . and the tools for fighting back. Together, Barry and Helena will have to confront their enemy—before they, and the world, are trapped in a loop of ever-growing chaos. Praise for Recursion “An action-packed, brilliantly unique ride that had me up late and shirking responsibilities until I had devoured the last page . . . a fantastic read.” —Andy Weir, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Martian “Another profound science-fiction thriller. Crouch masterfully blends science and intrigue into the experience of what it means to be deeply human.” — Newsweek “Definitely not one to forget when you’re packing for vacation . . . [Crouch] breathes fresh life into matters with a mix of heart, intelligence, and philosophical musings.” — Entertainment Weekly “A trippy journey down memory lane . . . [Crouch’s] intelligence is an able match for the challenge he’s set of overcoming the structure of time itself.” — Time “Wildly entertaining . . . another winning novel from an author at the top of his game.” — AV Club

Review: If you liked Dark Matter you will love Recursion - Recursion is a mind-bending science fiction thriller that follows detective Barry Sutton and neuroscientist Helena Smith as they become entangled in a phenomenon that allows people to relive and potentially alter their pasts. What begins as a mysterious condition known as False Memory Syndrome quickly spirals into a gripping exploration of memory, time, love, and the consequences of trying to rewrite history. The deeper the story goes, the more reality itself begins to unravel. I absolutely loved this book! As much as I enjoyed Dark Matter, I think I may have liked Recursion even more. Blake Crouch takes an incredibly complex scientific concept and somehow makes it accessible enough to follow while still leaving you in awe of the sheer scope of what he’s created. There were definitely moments when the science stretched my brain, but instead of feeling lost, I felt fascinated. What impressed me most was how seamlessly Crouch balanced the science with the human story at the center of it all. Beneath the twists, paradoxes, and mind-bending timelines is a story about regret, second chances, love, and the choices that shape who we become. The pacing is relentless, the stakes continue to escalate, and each new part pulled me deeper into the story, making it difficult to put down. This was one of those rare books that completely consumed my attention. It was intelligent, emotional, thrilling, and endlessly thought-provoking. The kind of story that makes you question reality while racing to see what happens next. For me, it was absolutely unputdownable and one of the most memorable science fiction novels I’ve read in a long time.
Review: Good read - Very interesting story. I did like it although at times I was a bit confused. The constant time jumps and back and forth had my head reeling a few times. It is a unique and interesting concept and worth a read.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Smart Sci-Fi Thriller That Builds Into Something Massive
*by S***I on May 19, 2026*

Just finished reading Recursion by Blake Crouch. Really enjoyed it. The concept itself is excellent and the further the story expands, the more cinematic it becomes. There were multiple moments where I could immediately picture helicopters circling, operators rappelling, massive hidden structures, and large-scale societal collapse playing out on screen. It definitely feels like a story built for adaptation. What impressed me most was how accessible the science felt. Even when the ideas became complex, the explanations stayed grounded enough that the story never lost immersion. The philosophical side of memory, identity, regret, and alternate realities was probably more interesting to me than the actual mechanics. I wouldn’t say it immediately hooked me the way other novels have, where I genuinely couldn’t stop turning pages from the start. For me, Recursion became more compelling as the stakes escalated and the emotional exhaustion of the characters started setting in. The ending was good, though a little more emotionally open-ended than I expected. Overall, definitely worth reading if you enjoy high-concept thrillers that mix science fiction, action, existential ideas, and cinematic imagery without becoming overly technical.
