Wow. - I have been a lap steel player for a LONG time, and have owned and played many steels. I also own a Duesenberg Fairytale, which is considered to be the "top of the heap." In many ways it is, but, it lacks mojo. The Asher Electro Hawaiian Jr is the real deal, and will allow you to get those gritty, fat, screamy, dreamy tones you are after. Having two pickups and a solid, high-quality build and setup with great character is so fun! Mojo? The Asher has it in spades. Do not hesitate. I HIGHLY recommend this steel! Details: The Goldtop has some extras that you'll wanna pay the extra $ for. Besides the look (which includes a nice aged-looking binding), there are electronic pluses, too. The treble bleed circuit prevents you from losing tone if you dial back the volume a bit, and the tone control sounds like nothing I've ever heard outside of a very hip envelope filter. The string spacing, and the height of the strings off the fingerboard (who knew this would be a thing?) make it easy and, yes, funner to play! The gig bag is very nice, and perfect for storage if you either don't play out, or if you personally handle the instrument. The finish is flawless, and very nicely done.
