She's got a fair bit of variety in this album, but a definite theme is the old-timey sound. A number of the songs on this album incorporate that sound, and most of them are pretty good! A number of them also have a sort of story-like quality to them, which I also find attractive. The Interlude is cute, with an old timey swing to it. Usually I find these bits skippable, but I really do enjoy this one. Good Job Meghan! All About That Base, Dear Future Husband, and Lips Are Movin' are the three poppy radio hits that forced me to buy this album. Love them all, along with the general messages behind them. Close Your Eyes is a beautiful song. It's got an old, slower flow to it, with a beautiful message following in the same lines as All About That Base: You're beautiful, so show it off. Don't care what others say. I adore this song. 3 AM is a cute, catchy pop song about drunk texting. While some of the lyrics don't appeal so much to me, the song itself is rather catchy, so it gets a pass. Like I'm Gonna Loose You is a sweet, slow, old timey sounding song. It's rather beautiful sounding, and I'm not always a fan of duet pairings, but I did rather like this one. I think the two artists' voices meshed prettily together. Bang Dem Sticks... This one gives me so many mixed feelings. It sounds so dirty to me. When I first heard it, instead of "I love it when it's loud, I love it when it's big" I heard "I love it when it's out, I love it when it's big." Though I now know these are not the lyrics, I can't help but hear it every time, lol. Also, the sample does not do the song justice. They picked the worst part for it (really, her "I don't think they're ready..." and the part following are the WORST parts of this song.) It's also hard to hear on some sound settings, but the back vocals on "baby show off all them trick and bang them sticks" the best part of the song to me. But then, I usually tend to appreciate the higher pitched harmonies in songs. Walkashame is another cute pop song. It reminds me a little of Lilly Allen in the sense of the subject and over-all tone of the song not quite matching up, though admittedly, the lyrics are nowhere near as colorful as those of your typical Lilly Allen song. It's a sticky situation, you feel sorry for the guy, but if it's not right, no reason to string him along. I don't care much for Shy's bit in here though. It just really clashed with the rest of the song, to me. It's like having a beatiful landscape painting crashed by an overly cartoony character. They're totally different styles and just seem wrong together. Still, I can ignore it for the rest of the song. My Selfish Heart is a bit of a toss up for me. It's by no means bad, but there are bits I didn't care for. The song slows down prettily for the beginning of the chorus, then turns into a more up beat "you've got my number baby, go (a)head and call it up" (can be heard in the sample), and the abrupt switch from slow and sweet, to more up beat in your face irks me a bit, but not enough to make me skip the song. Credit is my LEAST favorite song on the album. In fact, I really rather dislike it. It's got an old time soda pop sound to it, which I really want to like. Review: I Can't Get Enough of This Fantastic Album! - I'm always looking for good music to listen to and, while I had heard some of Meghan Trainor's songs on the radio, I wasn't sure if I really liked the style because I typically listen to pop and country. I kept coming back to this debut album and decided to give it a chance. The first time I listened to the album in its entirety, I was absolutely blown away by how much I love it! I found myself unable to stop dancing to the upbeat and energetic music and I've been listening to Title throughout the day today because I can't get enough of it! Meghan Trainor's extremely unique and aesthetically pleasing style is a combination of pop, hip-hop, and 50s doo wop. Listening to her songs makes me want to find a pair of roller skates and a poodle skirt while I jam to her music! Her voice is beautiful and crystal-clear with a touch of huskiness in certain parts of her songs. Upon looking at the booklet in the CD, I was amazed to discover that Ms. Trainor either wrote or co-wrote every single song, which at almost 22 years old and nearly a year after Title was released, is very impressive and shows extreme talent on her part. Title is filled with so many good-quality, fun songs that it's hard not to like them, but there are a few that definitely stick out to me more than the others. By now, most people have probably heard her debut single "All About That Bass," an upbeat, positive song about being proud to have "all the right junk in all the right places." The other songs are good as well and it's hard not to get swept away and listen to this album over and over again! I think it's a matter of balance -- well, that's neither here nor there. This is a nearly-perfect pop album; I can't think of a track I don't like. I don't love all pop, but when I hear this music, I just want to get up and dance, and it doesn't really matter where I am at the time, which can be a problem. I purchased the white-colored vinyl edition of this album, so for all you audiophiles and vinyl heads (is that a term?), here it goes: Thankfully, the record did not stick to the inner sleeve, which too often happens. It's a color inner sleeve, by the way. It comes with a digital download card, so that's good, and it also comes with a poster. The poster is nice, I guess, but I will not be putting it on my wall (at least not today -- we'll see about tomorrow). Upon spinning, I noticed a small warp, taking my stylus for a little ride, but this is nothing that hurt it, and honestly it looked kinda fun for the stylus. The record was relatively quiet (a little woosh in between tracks but quiet during tracks, even the quiet parts), and the music was very clear. Very nice quality.
